RHC projects.

As the president of DePaul University's on-campus student government association, Residence Hall Council (RHC), I am in charge of moving projects forward. I encourage members of my organization to push themselves in terms of planning events and advocating for change within dorm life at DePaul.

In the past year, DePaul's on-campus presence has decreased from several thousand to just over two hundred residents. That hasn't stopped DePaul RHC from moving straight ahead!

As a leader, I put together new recruitment strategies and new member training for the current remote setting. It is important to me that materials are accessible and easy to understand, which is why I have gathered resources in a giant Google Drive masterfolder. Members have access to event planning ideas, advertising strategies, and on-campus contacts for collaboration opportunities.

A large part of RHC is planning community-building events for people living on-campus.

Even though most of our events had to be put on remotely, they were a lot of fun to plan and attend!

In our meetings, whenever someone suggested a new idea for an event, I always praised them for their ideas. Uplifting people and making them feel comfortable was key to creating a welcoming environment within RHC. Positivity creates a space for new and better ideas to come forth.

After a new idea was put out, I encouraged group discussion to build onto the idea. For example, if someone wanted to conduct a movie night, I suggested buying microwaveable popcorn to deliver to the attendees or create a "movie scavenger hunt" so that people could play a game or have an objective while watching the film.

RHC conferences.

Leadership conferences are a great chance for residence life organizations like RHC to network with other organizations around the country. Our organizations exchange event ideas, tools for recruiting new members, and best practices for dorm-life.

I served as the lead for the Illinois Residence Hall Association conference by organizing the materials that RHC would bring. I put together a video showcasing the RHC delegates in attendance, presented a professional development program, and created an award bid for one of our members.

Throughout the conference preparation, I sent out reminders for important deadlines like registration and voting.
